Our Story
The Van Winden name is synonymous in the Napa Valley with knowing plants and landscaping. Prior to starting Van Winden Landscaping, Adrian and his family started Van Winden Nursery (1953). He worked there for years before earning his contractors license and opening Van Winden’s Landscaping in 1958. His work can be seen all over the Napa Valley. From the redesign of Robert Mondavi Winery entrance to the creative space in front of Kohl’s Department Store in remembrance of 911, Van Winden Landscaping has left their mark throughout this amazing valley.
In 1986, Jim Van Winden, Adrian’s only son, returned to join his father in the family business. Jim had grown up at the California Blvd. business that Adrian owned. He worked alongside his father until it was time to go to college. Jim attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for the purpose of attaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Ornamental Horticulture. He wanted to be working on tractors, in the dirt, creating and designing outside in the natural habitat. Prior to returning to Napa, he spent a year in Holland, playing pro basketball and learning from his Dutch relatives in the landscaping business. A wealth of knowledge coupled with his ingenuity about plants, design and resources make him a high sought after landscape contractor.
